The mid- to late 19th century is considered the golden age of black and white illustration. This book collects masterpieces by many highly respected illustrators from this era, featuring artists such as John Tenniel, who was the illustrator for Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland (1865); Kay Nielsen, the Danish illustrator who contributed to the publication of Fairy Tales by Hans Andersen (1924); and Aubrey Beardsley who is best known for his drawings for Oscar Wilde's play Salome.
