The Petua Project is an initiative by Visual Inconsideration to create awareness of Singapore's local traditions, cultural heritage and to preserve the way of life of those that have come before us. Petua (per-too-ah) is a Malay term for 'Advice' and folk proverbs which usually betray a deeper meaning, the significance of which may have been lost in transmission. For generations, Petua like "Don't sing else it will rain", "7 years of bad luck for breaking a mirror" and the famous "Don't open the umbrella inside the home as snakes will enter" have shaped the cultures and lives of local Singaporeans across all walks of life.
